Hill College Reminder about Inclement Weather Communications

It’s that time of year, when the possibility of inclement weather may appear in the forecast. Although campus/center delays and class cancellations are rare, Hill College may close in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Severe weather, flooding, power outages, a water main break or other situation may cause a full or partial closure or delay of the campus/center.

 

We make decisions regarding inclement weather as quickly as possible and with everyone’s best interest in mind. However, while every effort is taken to quickly examine road conditions and weather data for our entire five county service area, we must also encourage your personal responsibility in decisions to keep yourself safe. To that end, if the college remains open or operates on a delay schedule, it is ultimately up to faculty, staff, students and visitors to use their best judgement when making the determination to travel to campus in potentially hazardous conditions.

Incidents may occur that necessitate closing of the college at any time of the day and sometimes, only a portion of a day’s classes may be cancelled. The leadership team that makes the decision to cancel classes for an entire day will work to make an announcement as close to 6:30am as possible. However, with the unpredictability of any situation, this may not always be possible.

As soon as a decision is made about delaying or closing the college, communication will be made through the below media. Faculty, staff and students are strongly encouraged to update emergency contact information in RebelAlert, Hill College’s Emergency Notification System.
